Dr.Jose Joseph

Chair & Assistant Professor

Dr. Jose Joseph is the Chair of the School of Electronic Systems and Automation, Digital University Kerala (Former IIITM-K). Prior to joining IIITM-K, he was working as a post-doctoral researcher in E. L. Ginzton laboratory (Electrical Engineering) at Stanford University, CA, USA. He also worked as a research associate in Center for Nanoscience and Engineering (CeNSE) & Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.

Jose’s research spans the interdisciplinary domains of ultrasonics, microfabrication, and sensor technology. His work primarily focuses on the design and development of innovative ultrasound transducers for diverse applications such as medical imaging, biometric authentication, and airborne sensing. In parallel, he has led efforts in creating compact biosensors and precision sensing systems for smart agriculture. With more than seven years of experience in microfabrication, Jose’s expertise lies in translating ultrasonic principles into practical technologies—particularly in areas like neuromodulation, fingerprint recognition, and navigation using airborne ultrasound.

Jose heads the ‘Innovation Centre for Sensors, Actuators and Transducers (ICSAT)’, that focuses on developing novel sensors, actuators and transducers for societal good. For more information, kindly visit the lab website.
