By AI hardware, we refer to the development of some form of AI accelerators and AI real-time systems for intelligent devices, Intelligent IOT, intelligent sensor, and robotics. It is a class of microchips, ASIC’s or reconfigurable electronics that enabled faster processing of AI applications such as in machine learning, neural networks and computer vision. The AI hardware program involves exploration of new devices, architectures and algorithms to improve processing efficiency as well as enable the transition from Narrow AI to Broad AI. Approximate computing, in-memory computing, machine intelligence and quantum computing are all part of the computing approaches explored in this program of study for future research and industry career. The students get opportunities to work on industry relevant problems throughout the program, and will be at par or above industry standards. The course offers career opportunities in a wide range of domains from IT to Semiconductor Industry.

By Signal Processing and Automation, we refer to the modern application of signal processing in Cyber-Physical Systems, Intelligent Systems, Robotics, Intelligent IOT, and Industrial Automation 4.0. The area of focus involves (1) developing energy efficient solutions based on the theory of signal processing, (2) addressing practical implementation issues of signal processing, (3) the use of digital signal processors and FPGA for real-time systems, (4) develop intelligent machine vision and audio processing system that can be deployed in industrial settings, and (5) specific applications in automotive and multimedia industry. Students receive training to develop new signal processing algorithms and evaluate the performance in terms of speed and accuracy. Students achieve industry experience by learning to test their algorithms in realistic conditions by implementing them in DSP firmware. The students get opportunities to work on industry relevant problems throughout the program, and will be at par or above industry standards. The course offers career opportunities in a wide range of domains from IT to Semiconductor Industry.
