Dr Elizabeth Sherly

Distinguished Visiting Professor

Prof. (Dr.) Elizabeth Sherly, is a Distinguished Professor of Digital University Kerala and former Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) and International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS). In a career spanning more than three decades in teaching and research, she has gathered expertise in Pattern Recognition, Natural Language Processing, Automatic Speech Recognition System and Image Processing. She travelled Los Angeles- USA, London-UK, Singapore and Malaysia for academic exercises and was a visiting Researcher of University of Yolk, London.

She served as the Chief Investigator of several prestigious MeitY projects under Digital India Corporation and Technology Development in Language Technology of Government of India. She has established and is heading two centres of excellence –Virtual Resource Centre for Cognitive and Language Computing (VRCLC) and Centre of Excellence in Pattern and Image Analysis (CEPIA). She is also heading and promoting Women Innovation, Startupsand Entrepreneurship (WISE) under IIITM-K and DUK.

She was the recipient of EURECA (UK)fellowship, Rational Certified ( India) Trainer and one among 7 scientists in India for e-Science Grid Group, London. She has received the award from Central Government (eWorldForum 2012) for Best Initiative for language and Localized Application in eGovernance and also received eWorldForum 2011 Best Jury Award for the project” Cloud Computing Initiative” sponsored by MHRD. Dr. Sherly has produced 13 Ph.Ds and has more than 100 papers to her credit, which includes international, national and conference papers.

Dr. Sherly was the Director Board Member of several Kerala Government organization including Kerala IT Mission, Kerala Start up Mission, Institute of Management in Government etc. She has been serving of editorial board member of several international and national journals. She is a Ph.D thesis evaluator of several universities, IITs, NITs and interview panel member and technical committee member of several organizations in INDIA.

Achievements

  • Received eWorldForum 2011 Best Jury Award for the project” Cloud Computing Initiative” sponsored by MHRD, DIT and Media Labs
  • Received the fellowship European Research and Education Collaboration with Asia (EURECA) and Selected as Visiting Researcher of University of York, UK
  • Awarded the title of Rational Practitioner and Certified Trainer on Object Oriented Analysis and Design stream for Rational Software Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd. with effect from Sept 2001.
  • Chief coordinator for establishing IIITM-K as SUN Regional centre of excellence for E-Learning and IIITM-K joined on elite group of four universities worldwide
  • Co-chair the session on Distributed Computing at International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Technologies and Applications (PDCAT 05) at Singapore.
  • One among 7 Scientists in INDIA, to set up National GRID set up at Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi with e-Science group of ICENI, LONDON, , Feb 2004.
