Institution's Innovation Council (IIC)
The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) is a program launched by the Ministry of Education (MoE) through MoE's Innovation Cell (MIC) in collaboration with AICTE for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to systematically foster the culture of innovation and start-up ecosystem in education institutions. IIC engage large number of faculty, students and staff in various innovation and entrepreneurship related activities in the campus such as ideation, Problem solving, Proof of Concept development, Design Thinking, IPR, project handling and management at pre-incubation/Incubation stage, etc so that innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem gets established and stabilized in HEIs.
Digital University Kerala established the IIC in the year 2022 and has secured two stars on the annual national level innovation ranking in its very first attempt ( IIC 6.0 - 2022-23 ) and currently holds 4-star rating in the national-level IIC ranking ( IIC7.0 - 2023-24 ). The Ministry of Education, Government of India sets the criteria for this ranking and this rating is based on various programs that have been ongoing for the last one year, including awareness programs, ideathons, hackathons, and other innovation initiatives. Digital University Kerala is the only government university in Kerala to achieve this four star rating this year. Only 205 educational institutions across the country, out of 5455 participating IIC institutions, have achieved this rating among 16,000+ IICs registered across the country.
IIC aims to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among students, from the ideation stage to the development of a startup. The ranking is determined by evaluating these initiatives based on various criteria, including the level of innovation and entrepreneurship among students.
