Our Story<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t

The idea for the Virtual Resource Centre of Language Computing (VRCLC) was born from a simple yet powerful realization: that language should never be a barrier to technology. In a multilingual country like India\u2014and in a culturally rich state like Kerala\u2014the need for inclusive digital access in native languages is more critical than ever.\n\n

Recognizing this need, the Digital University Kerala established VRCLC as a pioneering initiative to advance research and development in language computing, especially for Malayalam and other Indian languages. What began as a small collaboration between linguists and technologists has now evolved into a vibrant hub for Natural Language Processing (NLP), artificial intelligence in language, and digital resource creation.\n\n

From developing machine translation systems and speech tools to supporting e-Governance and education in local languages, VRCLC has consistently pushed the boundaries of what is possible in language technology. We work closely with government departments, academic institutions, startups, and communities to ensure that language computing serves everyone\u2014especially those on the margins of the digital world.\n\n

VRCLC offers a wide range of services aimed at supporting language computing initiatives. These include the development of NLP tools for translation, speech processing, and text analysis; building corpora and linguistic resources; conducting research and offering training in language technologies; and providing consultancy for localization and standardization of digital platforms. We also deliver specialized capacity-building programs in Artificial Intelligence across diverse domains, not limited to language computing. The WISE (Women Incubation, Startups, and Entrepreneurship) project is an incubation initiative under the Digital University Kerala aimed at empowering women to become successful entrepreneurs. It provides a supportive ecosystem that includes mentorship, technical guidance, business development support, and access to prototyping facilities. Through its unique ThinkLab, WISE enables women innovators to develop and test their ideas into viable products and services. The Brain Computing Project at the Center of Excellence in Brain Computing (CEBC) focuses on unlocking the potential of the human mind through advanced brain-computer interface (BCI) technologies and cognitive science research. The project explores neural data analysis, EEG-based signal processing, and AI-driven interpretation of brain activity to develop intelligent digital systems that interact directly with the human brain. It aims to improve the quality of life for individuals with speech or motor impairments by creating hands-free communication tools and control systems.
