At
the 39th IEEE International
Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE
2023), which will be held in Anaheim (USA) during 3-7 April
2023, the organizers have introduced an innovation called Special Track which is
different from the usual Research Track, and Industry
and Applications Track. I, C.
Mohan, have been tasked with evangelizing this novel track.
Hence the creation of this web page.
The page Special Track Call for
Papers, gives a detailed explanation of the rationale behind the
introduction of this track and the types of papers that the track is
targeted for. The organizers managed to line up a Program Committee
with numerous eminent people, as can be seen in the list below. One
indication of the PC's eminence is the fact that out of the 21
members, 10 of us (bold faced in the list below) are winners of the ACM
SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award, with 2 of the 10 also
being Turing
Award winners!
9
papers were selected for presentation in this track and they will be
presented in 2 plenary sessions. The details of
those 2 sessions are shown below.
In
each session, after the papers are presented, there will be a panel
discussion involving the authors of the corresponding papers. The
first session will be moderated by Sharad
Mehrotra and the second session will be moderated by me. The
panelists might not necessarily be the presenters. The first
session's panel is also being held, in the context of his upcoming
retirement, as a celebration of Mike
Carey's contributions to database research and the community.
Stay tuned for more details to be posted.
I
would like to invite all the attendees of ICDE2023 to be present in
the audience for the above two plenary sessions. You can contribute
to making the special track a successful one by engaging actively
with the speakers and the panelists of the track. Collectively, if
we make the 2023 Special Track a successful one, it might become a
permanent feature of future ICDE conferences. The overarching goal
is to improve the stature/prestige of the ICDE conference series as
a whole!
