The Machine Intelligence master's programme enables the students to design, implement and analyse intelligent systems. Intelligent decision making and learning, and intelligent web-based systems are areas of growing emphasis in the digital world. Machine learning algorithms can figure out how to perform important tasks by generalizing from examples. This is often feasible and cost-effective when manual programming is not. Machine learning (also known as data mining, pattern recognition and predictive analytics) is used widely in business, industry, science and government, and there is a great shortage of experts in it. The Course provides the necessary foundation in Machine Intelligence as well 5 as other core subjects for a graduate level computer science education. Computers are learning to think, read, and write. They’re also picking up human sensory function, with the ability to see and hear (arguably to touch, taste, and smell, though those have been of a lesser focus). Machine intelligence technologies cut across a vast array of problem types (from classification and clustering to natural language processing and computer vision) and methods (from support vector machines to deep belief networks). All of these technologies are reflected on this landscape.

The area of cyber security also known as computer security or IT security is security applied to computers, computer networks, and the data stored and transmitted over them. The field is of growing importance due to the increasing reliance of computer systems in most societies. Governments, military, corporations, financial institutions, hospitals and other businesses collect, process and store a great deal of confidential information on computers and transmit that data across networks to other computers. With the growing volume and sophistication of cyber-attacks, ongoing attention is required to protect sensitive business and personal information, as well as safeguard national security. Through MSc in Computer Science with specialization in Cyber Security we will be able to harness both students who would like to pursue traditional and non-innovative career choices like teaching and jobs in traditional government sectors as well as those who are open to challenging job options in corporate and allied sectors. The field of cyber security has grown very rapidly in recent years. The subject embraces technologies such as cryptography, network security, biometrics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, digital forensics, fraud detection, and penetration testing as well as management of security and trade-offs while implementing information security. The graduates of this programme can get hired as  Cryptography Engineer, Ethical Hacker, IT Auditor, Software Engineer, Security Engineer, Penetration and Vulnerability Tester, Security Analyst, Security Consultant,  etc. Further, graduates of this programme will be able to pursue PhD research in cyber security.

Software systems engineers use computing to solve real-world problems. They take on different roles, such as software architects, analysts, designers, developers, testers, consultants, and project managers. This specialization offered by the School of CSE, DUK aims to prepare students to assess software requirements, design, develop, and test software systems, plan and manage software projects, and solve technical challenges by applying computational theories.

The program’s curriculum includes lectures, laboratory work, student seminars, individual and group assignments, individual and group projects, internal tests, end-semester examinations, industrial seminars & workshops, internships, and a final research/industry project & dissertation. The University’s collaboration with local software companies at Technopark, Technocity, Infopark, and Smart City facilitates students' projects and internships in software industries and gets them hands-on experience in real-life projects.

The program is designed to prepare students to get placements in global software companies as software engineers, software architects, technical/project leaders and project coordinators/managers. Students have the opportunity to get placed in the companies they have engaged with for their internships and projects. The program also provides a foundation for further doctoral research and a career in academia.

Natural Language Processing, its research and development is progressing in an alarming rate.  It is well understood that dream of an inclusive digital transformation can be achieved only by bringing NLP research with products and applications in a big way by   transcending language barriers, thereby ensuring digital empowerment.  There has been an overwhelming demand for digital services and to make millions of citizens to use the online services in regional languages, it is required to have a robust language specific systems and services for Indian Languages and to make them open for all. This master’s program provides a systemic training program to harness natural language technologies to enable a diverse ecosystem of contributors, partnering entities and citizens for the purpose of transcending language barriers, thereby ensuring digital inclusion through capacity building. The program will meet the demands of Industry, Academics, Government etc. by focusing on Natural Language Processing by emphasizing speech and language technology.

Natural Language Processing(NLP) technologies are of central importance in automating the analysis of text and speech databases and in enabling man-machine interactions through natural language.  Speech and language technology graduates are in great demand in areas like machine translation, document indexing and retrieval, and speech recognition. This program covers all areas of speech and language processing, from phonetics, speech synthesis and speech recognition, to natural language understanding and machine translation.

To remain significant in this trend, knowledge of distributed systems is a must for any computer engineer and software developer. Blockchain is the game-changing distributed database technology to record the interactions in a modification resistant manner. Blockchain technology is being used successfully in financial transactions and information sharing. This well-curated master’s program in computer science with specialisation in distributed systems and blockchain technology aims to prepare students to design and develop distributed systems, especially blockchain-related solutions. This two-year program will start with fundamental courses like data structure, programming, and mathematics and will finally cover advanced distributed systems and modern blockchain applications. Data analytics refers to the process of investigating datasets to conclude.  Data Analytics is one of the emerging areas of the IT industry and can be applied across disciplines ranging from science, technology, business or even arts. Big Data Analytics is a  phrase tossed recently to tackle sheer volume of data generated in the modern world. Data Science and Big Data Analytics combine statistical methods for inferring patterns from crude data; database technologies for storing and retrieval of data; intelligent technologies to extract knowledge and visualization for easy analysis and better understanding. Data analytics enables one to generate information and thereby knowledge from large quantities of incomprehensive data. The post graduate programme in data analytics is intended to offer hands-on training in data analytics, data mining and knowledge discovery methods using machine learning technologies and their application to practical problems.

The course aims at developing quality human resources in data analytics and with hands-on experience in machine learning and deep learning technologies  to cater the needs of government, industry and scientific organizations in the subject area. The course will also provide necessary training to develop professionals and leaders of high calibre imbued with values of  entrepreneurship, ethics and social responsibility.

The power of spatial computing is seen everywhere. Industry uses geospatial analytics for building site-selection, mobile navigation, and asset tracking. Scientists use geospatial tools to track endangered species, predict infectious disease spread, monitor sea-level rise and understand global population dynamic

MSc IN DATA ANALYTICS

Data has become critical to the success of any organisation and data scientists, like domain experts, play an important role in strategic decisions. According to the World Economic Forum in upcoming years, skills will be more significant than job titles, as the labour market evolves toward multi-faceted professionals rather than singularly specialised ones. With this new trend data science can align your profession with the new demands of the industry/academia.

The Digital University Kerala and its parent organisation, IIITM-K, are well-known for their contributions to Data Science, Analytics, Machine Learning, and Big Data Technology. DUK plans to offer MSc in Data Analytics with three different specialisations from 2022-2023 academic year onwards, namely Geoinformatics, Computational Science, and BioAI. These programmes are carefully designed to meet the needs of data science experts in a wide range of scientific domains.

SPECIALIZATIONS

This program is a journey from the foundation to advanced topics in Intelligent systems and imaging. The courses are carefully designed for a novice in image and signal processing to become skilled in designing intelligent systems using imaging. Whether your degree is BSc in biosciences, physical sciences or from a B.Tech non-electronics branch, this course offers you to develop industry-ready skills in signal and image processing for developing advanced applications such as audio and medical imaging. There is a large volume of imaging data to be processed and analysed intelligently to solve applications such as for better health, medicine, and multimedia. Through the program you will be expected to learn:

  • Select, implement and test methods involving signal processing, pattern matching and model fitting to extract relevant information
  • Rapidly prototype methods for internal experiments and develop quality metrics and visual aid to guide early R&D
  • Create robust implementations of production algorithms to process high throughput imaging data by exploiting data properties, layout, and CPU/GPU architecture
  • Build analytical models or simulations to understand and communicate key trade-offs of imaging system design and data quality

Internship (Work-while you study program): 

IICG M.Sc Fellows: You are eligible to apply for a fellowship in Graphene and 2D materials as part of the IICG project. If selected for this internship, you are expected to work on a two-year research project involving the use of Graphene for Intelligent systems and imaging applications. Interns will receive a monthly research study allowance of Rs 10,000 for carrying out a research project.  The positions are available to those who get admitted to the program, and who would clear an internship test and interview. You will receive a link to apply to this program once admitted. (Number of positions are subject to availability of supervisors and funds, about 5-10 vacancies expected)

This program is a journey from the foundation to advanced topics in IoT and robotics. The courses are carefully designed for a novice in electronics to become skilled in designing some of IoT and Sensors in the domain of robotic systems. Whether your degree is BSc in biosciences, physical sciences or from a B.Tech non-electronics branch, this course offers you to develop industry-ready skills in sensor design, development and use in the robotics domain making extensive use of IoT. As the sensors are increasingly being used in a wide range of applications, and the devices to be smarter, the impact and reach of intelligent sensors and sensor processing applications are many. Through the program you will be expected to learn and get an experience:

  • using sensors, including accelerometers, gyroscopes, pressure sensors, thermocouples, radar, or LIDAR, from a chip/breakout board level
  • working with single board computers and microcontrollers
  • with embedded systems and embedded operating systems, including Linux, Android or other real-time operating systems
  • with PCB design, schematic design, or PCB design software
  • programing in languages, including C, C++, or Python
  • of communication protocols I2C, SPI, UART, or other protocols for system interface, programming, and debugging
  • of reading component data sheets and schematics

Internship (Work-while you study program): 

IICG M.Sc Fellows: You are eligible to apply for a fellowship in Graphene and 2D materials as part of the capacity building program of the IICG project. This program is a journey from the foundation to advanced topics in AI hardware. The courses are carefully designed for a novice in electronics to become skilled in designing some of the advanced chips. Whether your degree is BSc in biosciences, physical sciences or from a B.Tech non-electronics branch, this course offers you to make the perfect switch to the world of analogue and digital electronics chip design. With the need to have chips everywhere, the demand for highly skilled chip designers and verification engineers are on the rise. You will develop the ability to both recommend high-level architectures and also “roll up the sleeves” to code RTL, verify designs, and join post-silicon validation efforts. Through the program you will be expected to learn:

  • RTL, Logic Design: As an RTL or Logic designer, you will be defining the digital circuitry and functionality of the chips to meet the intended specifications, architecture.
  • Verification: As a verification engineer, you will be performing pre-silicon validation of the chip’s logical design and functionality. You will use state-of-the-art simulation techniques creating environments and methodologies to simulate and debug design RTL.
  • Physical Design: As a physical design engineer you will work on designing, optimizing circuit layout, clock and power distribution, optimizing buffering and wiring for best power, performance, yield and manufacturability. You will get to work with industries latest VLSI/Hardware EDA tools/flows and methodologies
  • Collaborate and communicate design status, project progress: As a member of a project team with other engineers you will partner to develop a reliable, cost-effective and high-quality VLSI solution

Internship (Work-while you study program):

IICG M.Sc Fellows: You are eligible to apply for a fellowship in Graphene and 2D materials as part of the capacity building program of the IICG project. The future of humanity on the Earth depends on our collective success to anticipate and ameliorate ecological challenges. Whether at a localised or planetary level, solutions to these challenges lie at the tri-junction of ecology, technology and society. Today’s ecological problems are increasingly complex and arriving at a solution involves analysing vast amounts of data. Ecological informatics helps to address these challenges by mastering the methods and developing the tools needed to distil information from data.

Ecological Informatics integrates ecology, computational science, informatics and social sciences, in order to improve our understanding of ecological processes. This pioneering academic program will teach ecology and impart computational and informatics skills to students with a background in natural and physical sciences.

Students will develop analytical, decision making, and data modelling skills that are critical for the job market and for pursuing research.

ELIGIBILITY

B.Sc. Degree in Botany/Zoology/Life Science/Chemistry/Physics/Ecology/Environmental Science/Geography/Geology/Microbiology/Plant or Animal Science/Agriculture/Forestry/Horticulture/ Biotechnology and allied areas

B.Tech/BE in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Agricultural and allied disciplines with 60% marks.

The MSc program offers an in-depth and hands on experience by providing students with the opportunity to work closely with various centres of excellence such as CoE on IIoT Sensors, India Innovation Centre for Graphene, and Maker Village, in the development of products and innovation. The students in this program is expected to develop as practitioners of technology related to Intelligent Systems, IoT and VLSI Design.

Entry-level requirement is a minimum score of 60 percentage marks OR CPI/CGPA of 6.5 or above in 10 points in the qualifying degree. A candidate with CGPA less than 6.5 will also be eligible if the equivalent percentage for graduation is above 60% as per the respective university norms for conversion from CGPA to percentage. In such a case, the candidate will have to produce the official document or percentage equivalence certificate from the respective university showing CGPA to percentage conversion norms, at the time of admission. Students who have scored less than 60% in their graduation degree are not eligible for admission to the courses of DUK. Candidates belonging to SC/ST and Divyangjan categories are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination. SEBC candidates of Kerala State who are certified as belonging to non-creamy layer are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for qualifying examination, provided that the candidates have passed the examination.

Candidates who have appeared or are appearing for the final year/semester examination may also apply for the PG Programs provided that they satisfy the following two conditions

  • Condition 1 ‐ That they have appeared/ are appearing for the final year/semester exam in full and for the first time
  • Condition 2 ‐ That they have passed all examinations prior to the final year /semester.

In other words, applicants to undergraduate programmes who are appearing for compartmental/improvement/supplementary examinations are not eligible for this privilege.

Selected students for the PG programs are expected to submit all the original documents of marklists, degree/provisional degree certificates, migration certificate, etc. by 30th September 2022. In case any of the candidates fail to submit the original certificates as proof of their eligibility by this date, the University may be forced to ask the students to discontinue the course.

MSc Computer Science with specialization in Cyber Security and MSc Computer Science with specialization in Machine Intelligence require the students to have strong foundations in Mathematics at the undergraduate level. Hence, it is recommended that the students of Cyber Security and Machine Intelligence specializations to have studied Mathematics during the +2/pre-university also.
