Smart connected devices that are aware of context and location will rule the digitally connected world in the future, with cognitive decision making enabled by intelligent data analytics. The synergy created by combining artificial intelligence, big data analytics, the Internet of Things, cloud/edge computing and other related technologies contributes significantly to realize the automated interaction of real-world physical systems. The International Data Corporation predicts 41.6 billion connected IoT devices will generate 79.4 zettabytes of data in 2025. Future smart systems rely on data intelligence tools and techniques for finding hidden patterns, unknown correlations, and useful information buried in massive amounts of data.
The Internet of Things is an exciting and rapidly growing field in both industry and academia. IoT has transformed the world of computing with connected devices sensing the environment and taking intelligent decisions at right time based on the analytics from the sensed data. Graduates of this masters programme are expected to develop novel solutions for intelligent and resilient networked systems and contribute to the design of stable digitally connected ecosystems involving distributed systems, computer vision, ubiquitous computing, machine learning, data science, and security services. Students will have access to our state-of-the-art facilities, which include a variety of professionally equipped laboratories and on-campus IoT communication infrastructure. Each student will be able to critically evaluate existing and emerging IoT technologies, as well as apply knowledge, understanding, analytical, and design skills to design and develop projects. The skills developed from this programme are in high demand in the industry, particularly in the key verticals of Smart Cities, Smart Industries, Connected Health, and Smart Homes. The course also serves as a springboard for further research studies.
The annual growth rate of artificial intelligence (AI) is predicted to be 33.2% between 2020 and 2027. The market growth of AI is hampered due to lack in the number of experienced and trained professionals. This programme would transform and strengthen the industries across the globe. It focuses on intelligence exhibited by the machines and is a hybrid intelligence, where AI systems and humans work together. The curriculum offers an opportunity to approach AI from a technical perspective that focuses on the understanding, analysis and development of novel AI algorithms as well as social and human perspectives. Decision making, problem solving, perception, understanding human communication (in any language, and translate among them) for the computers would be the key elements taught in this programme. This programme provides the foundation and advanced skills in the principles and technologies that underlie AI including logic, knowledge representation, probabilistic models, and machine learning. Students can pursue topics in depth, with courses available in areas such as robotics, vision, and natural language processing.
Cyber Security entails the procedure of defending electronic devices, systems, networks and data from any type of malicious attacks. While living in a futuristic society, surrounded by gadgets embedded with data the role of cyber security personnel becomes even more critical. The exponential growth of cyber-attacks needs more and more cyber experts. Demand in the cyber security job market is soaring while supply is running critically low. There aren’t enough qualified and skilled cyber security professionals to fill the growing need. Cyber security engineers, identify threats and vulnerabilities in systems and software, and then apply their skills to develop and implement high-tech solutions to defend against various cyber attacks.
As cyber attacks grow in volume and complexity, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly indispensable to manage cyber threats. At the same time, the adoption of AI techniques for cyber-attacks is also on the rise. AI thus has become an indispensable tool to manage cyber security risks, technical challenges, resource constraints and to improve systems’ robustness and resilience. The Master of Technology in Computer Science & Engineering with Specialization Cyber Security Engineering degree focuses on the fundamentals of developing, engineering, and implementing AI based secure systems. The students will receive grounding in the fundamentals of cyber security and AI and they will carry out research projects at the interface of the two. During the first semester, the programme focuses on fundamental courses in computer science, cyber security and artificial intelligence. During the second semester, the students will strengthen their knowledge in advanced fields of cyber security and artificial intelligence through courses focusing on recent application of cyber security and AI in computer engineering, the use of AI techniques in cyber security and the safety and security of applications incorporating AI. This unique M.Tech program provides students with a sound understanding of both disciplines. It puts considerable emphasis on their intersection. The graduates of this programme can get hired as Research Scientist, Principal Cryptographer, Cryptography Engineer, Cyber Security Architect, Security Analyst, Security Consultant, Chief Information Security Officer, Security Auditor etc. Further, graduates of this programme will be able to pursue Ph.D research or a research career on the interplay between cyber security, AI and other computing disciplines.
